Every prescription is filled by a licensed U.S. pharmacy. Here's how that works and what to expect.
Our dispensing pharmacies
Prescriptions are compounded by an FDA-registered 503A/503B pharmacy. Every pharmacy in our network is licensed in the states where it dispenses, accredited by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), and LegitScript-approved.
503A and 503B pharmacies
503A pharmacies compound medications for individual patients based on a prescription. They are licensed and inspected by state boards of pharmacy.
503B outsourcing facilities are registered with the FDA, follow current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) requirements, and are subject to FDA inspection.
What "compounded" means
A compounded medication is prepared by a licensed pharmacy for a patient with a prescription. Compounding is regulated, but the finished compounded products are not reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are dispensed.
Compounded medications are not FDA approved and are not generic equivalents of brand-name drugs.
Unbranded packaging
Your medication arrives in plain, unbranded packaging with the pharmacy's prescription label, which lists your name, the medication, its strength and instructions from your provider. Always follow the instructions on the pharmacy label.
Storage and handling
- Injectable medication is shipped in insulated packaging. Refrigerate it when it arrives unless the pharmacy label says otherwise.
- Do not freeze. Keep it away from direct heat and light.
- Never share needles or syringes, and dispose of them in a sharps container.
- Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.
- If a package arrives damaged or warm, contact us before using it.
Reporting side effects
Contact your provider through your patient account if you have side effects. You can also report side effects to the FDA's MedWatch program at 1-800-FDA-1088. If you think you're having a medical emergency, call 911.
